Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1955 chevy p/u Starter Problems, stroker engine, starter problems

Question
I have a 55 Chevy with a 383 stroker engine. The other day I emailed you and you told me what to check, well the starter was bad. I took it in and got another one, but now when the engine is hot, it's harder to start. Do I need to try to get a larger battery to handle the starter or could I have a bad starter? I'm running a .477/.480 cam and I know that the cam could be causing some of that, but it always started easy until recently. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer
Personally I always suspect new parts when there was no other problem before. I once went through 5 alternators before finally getting my money back and going to a shop that rebuilt them and had to stand behind their work. That alt lasted as long as I owned car.

See if there is a rebuild shop for electrical in your area. They actually replace the heat protection inside that the discount rebuilders don't. Most alternator shops rebuild starters too.
