Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1929 chrysler, banjo bolt, circular rings

Question
Dick what weight gear oil do i use in the rear and trans. also copper washers on the wheel cyl. mine are 1/32 thick would it hurt to be thicker, and should they be tight around the banjo bolt mine are now but I'm not shore if they tighten on the bolt when they compress, mine have circular rings in the washer made by the brass fitting the brake line hooks to. also should they be of soft copper to compress and make the circular rings in the washer.

Answer
Use SAE 140W grease in both the rear end and the trans.  Use GL-4 rated grease - don't let them talk you into GL-5, which is too thin for the old cars, even though it may say SAE 85-130W on it. It also has more modern chemicals in it, which may be damaging to your old units.

The copper washers should be tight, and they are soft copper - the idea is to squash them a little bit to get a really tight seal - the pressure in those hydraulic lines is thousands of PSI!  NAPA Stores stocks those washers.
