Classic/Antique Car Repair: shocks removal, 1950 chevy fleetline, spring travel

Question
hi brad,i have a 1950 chevy fleetline stocker is the removal of the shocks a bit dangerous due to pressure?  thanks and  god bless

Answer
The front shocks can be removed and installed without any danger no matter how you jack the car. It does not make any difference if the weight is off or on the spring. With the rear I would make sure that there was weight on the springs. If they are not loaded when they are released the axle will drop to the full extent of the spring travel. There may be a bit of pressure. Good luck.
