Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1949 Cadillac 62 SE, viscousity, 1949 cadillac

Question
I just had 1949 Cadillac sipped from Oklahoma to Louisiana.
Car was shipped with front facing downward. When started oil began to leak near manifold and smoking from tailpipe and oil coming from tailpipe. Could something happened in shipping? What should I do to correct problem? Any suggestions would be appreciated? Previos owner claims the car never had major oil leak or smoking problem. thanks

Answer
Start simple. I don't know of anything shippng would have done except physical damage which would be very visible, such as crushed or plugged breather pipe.

Have you changed to a thinner oil?

Also, is the oil out the tail pipe the same viscousity as what is in the engine?  Does the car smoke (out the exhaust, not where oil is dripping on manifold) ?

Does it improve when engine is hot or get worse?
