Classic/Antique Car Repair: buick 350, buick engine, quadrajet carb

Question
I have a 350 Buick engine, and I am trying to figure out what year it is so I can get the right parts. Is there anything on the engine that will tell what year it is and what car it came out of?? It has a Quadrajet carb and a choke pull off in the intake manifold.  Thank you

Answer
If the engine still has all its original parts, there is a letter code stamped on the left cylinder head.   There are many, many possible codes, most with two letters. Find that code and tell me what it is, I can then tell you what year it came from.

The book does not tell us where the code is stamped - my guess is that it will be on the front of the head, but if you don't see it there, look  all around the head - it's there somewhere!

Of course if the head has been changed, all you will learn about is what engine that head came from!
