Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1963 Ford T-Bird Brakes, cylinoid, air bubbles

Question
QUESTION: Hi Tazz, I Got in my car yesterday and I had no brakes. I noticed the sound of escaping air near the cylinoid but no visible leaks... I also noticed air bubbles in the brake fluid. How can I find the problem and hopefully repair it myself. Thanks in advance for you advise...

Richard

ANSWER: The air sound is probably a bad booster. The air bubbles are a liquid leak either at a wheel cylinder or the master cylinder itself.

The two are not related.

QUESTION: So I have two issues, is this something a beginner can tackle or do you think I should have it taken in?

Answer
When I bought my first car I did not know where the hood was. I asked and did everything myself. I believe everyone can repair their own car.

The power booster seems absolutely scary, but it is actually one of the easiest parts on a car to change. The master cylinder bolts to it and it bolts to the firewall. It is a dry system and has a rod to the brake pedal. That's it.

The master cylinder is much messier, but not much harder. It much be bleed by specific instructions, but anyone can do it.

I just answered a very complete brake bleeding question for someone. You may want to read that answer.
