what would cause a 76 camaro to suddenly shut down while driving down the
road?

Although there are several reason this could happen, my first guess is a failing fuel pump or a short in the fuel pump electrical wire. Does it suddenly kick back in or do you have to pull over to restart her?

Also, a clogged fuel filter and trash in the fuel line. But most likely she would spudder rather than cut completely out. Check the fuel pump and electrical connection first. Hope this helps.
