Classic/Antique Car Repair: Carb problems, air fuel mixture, air leak

Question
I have a 73 ford pick up and it has a worn out either 360 or 390 in it, i haven't run the numbers on it, runs real good. Anyways it seems though that its all of a sudden running extremely rich and is always running higher then usual. It has a mechanical choke but when the choke disengages it then dies. I've replaced spark plugs, distributor cap, etc. the main tune up. If you could submit an answer it would be very helpful.

THANKS

Answer
Hi Austin:
Sounds like you have an air leak in the air intake valve or a bad air/fuel mixture sensor. This is suppose to regulate idle once the choke is off. Not enough air would mean too much fuel, which would make it too rich. The reason it dies after the choke is off, because it is flooding out from too much fuel. This is my guess. Hope that helps.
