Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1968 CAMARO, 68 camaro, 1968 camaro

HERE IS THE DEAL. I JUST BOUGHT A 68 CAMARO WITH A 1970 350(EDELBROCK 4 BARREL CARB). WHEN I BOUGHT IT IT RAN GREAT. AFTER I GOT IT HOME, THE NEXT DAY IT WOULDN'T FIRE. I WOUND UP REPLACING THE ROUTER, DISTRIBUTOR CAP, COIL, AND RESISTOR AS WELL AS THE SPARK PLUGS. IT FIRED RIGHT UP AND RAN GOOD. I DROVE IT ABOUT 20 MILES AND IT BACKFIRED THREE TIMES THEN DIED. AFTER GETTING IT HOME, I CHECKED THE SPARK FROM THE COIL AS WELL AS THE PLUG WIRES. THAT WAS FINE. I PULLED A PLUG AND IT WAS SOAKED IN GAS AND A LITTLE OIL. I CLEANED THEM ALL PUT THEM BACK IN AND TRIED TO FIRE IT TWICE. PULLED ONE BACK OUT AND AGIAN SOAKED IN GAS BUT NO MORE OIL. DURING THIS TIME I WAS ABLE TO FIRE IT UP BUT IT WAS WAY ROUGH AND DIDNT RUN VERY LONG. I ALSO CHECKED THE PCV VALVE AND IT LOOK DIRTY. IM PLANING ON PICKING UP ONE ON THE WAY HOME. IM THINKING ITS THE CARB BUT I NOT TOO KNOWLEDGABLE IN THIS AREA. CAN YOU HELP?

sounds like the floats are set too high in your carb and you were lucky the first day.

Look down in the carb and see if gas is not leaking inside after you have tried to crank it for a minute. I believe you will see it is. Lower the float setting.
