Classic/Antique Car Repair: 86 camaro 2.8 oil leak, valve cover gasket, silicon sealant

Question
Hi, I recently had a starter quit and replaced because it was contaminated with oil. The tech which did the work informed me there is a oil leak above and probably from the rockercover gasket, and would agree as oil is dripping on my driveway.  I want to do this myself but now learnig that the plenum needs to removed, throttle body and egr valve also. I do have a camaro shop[ manual but still seems vague as to which further gaskets and/or seals are required to complete the valve cover gasket replacement and any advice on how to do it. Thank you  Andy

Answer
This is actually as simple as it looks. Manuals tend to get anything and everything out of the way that you might have a problem with.

I tend to remove no more than I have to. It does not hurt to remove the rocker cover bolts and try to get it out and then remove what stops you.

I no longer buy gaskets (over priced and poor quality) and use orange silicon sealant at this location. I let this application dry over night before re-installing.

Don't let the manual scare you, this one is common sense.
