Classic/Antique Car Repair: Hinge pins, ford parts, hinges

Question
I have a 1950 Ford convertible. Can I change the hinge pins on the doors, as there is play in the door.

Answer
Yes, you can drive out the old pins and install new ones, but that won't correct the problem entirely, because the hinges are worn too.  You need to have the hinges rebuilt, with new pins, or do it yourself if you have  access to machine tools.  The hinges have to be reamed to an oversize hole, and then larger pins installed.

You can probably get rebuilt hinges from the Ford parts suppliers - try C&G in California, call them at 760-740-2400 or go to their web site at:

They are nice folks, and probably have them on the shelf.
