Classic/Antique Car Repair: Drum Removal 1936 Chrsyler Airstream, rear drums, imperial club

Question
Hi Dick!

I have read your advice on removing stuck drums, and followed it carefully, in
regards to removing my rear drums from the above mentioned car. I am still
unable to do so.

The drum turns freely so it does not seem to be a lining adhering to the
inside of the drum.

Are there any bolts or other attaching screws that would hinder my progress?
It sure does seem like there is something keeping the drum attached to the
rear brake assembly on this vehicle.

Thanks always for your great advice.
Al

Answer
If you've loosened the big nut in the center, that is all you need to do. If you've read the other things I've written about this - either on this site or on the Imperial club web site, you already know this is a really tough job, and only the best puller will work, and even then, you often have to just keep at it, tightening and waiting, tightening and waiting, and finally, heating the hub with a torch (but don't over do that!). After you have paid your dues with all this work, it will, finally, pop off with a big bang!  I'm sorry, there is no magic trick - these are bear to get off, always were, always will be!
