Classic/Antique Car Repair: 70 el camino, repley, running lights

Question
QUESTION: Im having problems with my tail lights. The driver side blinker and tail light works but passenger does not. And the running lights do not work on either side. I have replaced the bulb and that has not fixed the problem. I also checked the fuses and they all seem fine. Didnt know if you would have a clue.

ANSWER: This sure sounds like a bad ground. Check the wires on the back of the housing. The black wire should run to a good ground. If the ground is ok then it is voltmeter time to check to make sure that the wiring is not cut somewhere.

QUESTION: now i got the running lights working on both side. but the same bulb wont work for the blinkers or brakes. i tried new bulbs and cleanded the inside. I have a 1157 bulb i think and the top always lights up but the bottom wire does not light up for the blinker or the brakes. thanks for your repley

Answer
Well it looks like you had two problems. If the running lights work it is time to use a voltmeter to check for voltage at the light when the directional are in the straight ahead position and the brakes are on. Make sure that the light on the other side is working. If there is no voltage at the right light and the left one is lit then the problem is probably the directional light switch.
