Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1954 Hudson Jet Hard starting, hudson jet, excess flow

Question
Greetings, I have a 54 Hudson Jet std. trans., single carburetor carter. When warmed up and then left to sit for 30 minutes or so the car is flooded and dificult to start. Where should I start ?

Answer
It sounds like your carb is getting too much fuel. Do you get run-on after turning off the car? If so, you most likely need a carb adjustment. But, even if you do not, you may need a carb adjustment. I am sure they didn't have run-on solenoids in 54, but if they did, the run-on solenoid would need repair/replacement. This stops excess flow of fuel to the carb when the car is turned off. Also, during starting do you have to pump the accelerator? If so, it could be flooding out at start up. Hope this helps.
