Classic/Antique Car Repair: Dome and cargo lights do not go out, chevy s10 blazer, 1995 chevy s10 blazer

Question
I have a 1995 chevy s10 blazer 4 wheel drive. The problem I am having is that my dome and cargo lights will not shut off. I have had to pull the fuse to keep the lights from draining my battery. I have already replaced the drivers door bushings because they were worn. Do you have any suggestions as to what my problem might be.

Answer
The lights come on any time anything grounds the wire that is connected to the door switches - and the most likely thing to ground that wire is the dash light control on your headlight switch.  Try this:  Put the fuse back in, and  with the doors closed, twist the headlight switch all the way to the left, then all the way to the right, then see if the lights have gone out. If that doesn't clear up the problem, you'll have to  disconnect the door switches one by one, to see if one of them  is holding the wire to ground.  Also, inspect the wires to the switch in the top to see if that wire is pinched or rubbed bare.  Somewhere, that point in the circuit is getting grounded - there is no other way to find it than to just trace the wire throughout the body until you find the place where it is pinched or rubbed bare.
