Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1971 Ford F-100, air fuel mixture, ford f 100

Question
Hello,

I have a 1971 Ford F-100 pickup. I was wondering if maybe you could tell me why it is missing, loping, flooding out, and just has no real power to it what so ever. It has an old 390 engine with a 2bbl carb and points. I have changed the points, button, and plugs. It runs a little better, but it is still sluggish and will flood itself out and die when the truck is cold. It is running to rich so i thought about adjusting the air/fuel mixture screws on the carb, but i don't know the setting for those...... what do you suggest i lean towards working on first? Thank you!

Answer
I would start by checking for a vacuum leak. If you have to, spray carb cleaner externally around your hoses and intake manifold. If engine lines out or picks up speed, you have a leak.
Nothing wrong with adjusting screws, but use a vacuum guage if possiblew to get them right
