Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1967 Dodge Dart Side window removal, dodge dart, chrysler products

Question
Hello,
I am working on a 1967 Dodge Dart 2 Dr Hardtop.
I am stripping the car to paint it inside and out.
The back seat Side window is giving me some challenges.
My question is what is the procedure to best remove this window??
There is a bracket on the bottom of the glass shaped like a ball that runs inside the slider track that closes & opens the window. Is this supposed to have a wheel on it or something the retain it in the track??
If you can help, I would appreciate it.
Thanks.

Answer
I'm having a bit of difficulty visualizing the bracket shaped like a ball, but I can tell you that yes, there should be rollers that run in the track to guide the window.

This is a pretty complex assembly, and you really should have the body parts manual open to page 23-24 to see the exploded view of all the parts, and to page 23-25 to see the list of the parts with their names and part numbers.  Viewing this picture will help you to understand how to get it all apart, and back togther again correctly.  You will also need the shop manual to tell you how to properly adjust the whole mechanism to make it work right when you get around to putting it back in the car. It is pretty hard to do this without the right manuals.

My advice is to get yourself a parts book and a shop manual for the car - both are available through eBay or through one of the literature dealers - I use Ed Faxon at www.faxonautolit.com, but there are many others who offer the same service.

If you are going to try to do this without the manuals, you will have to crouch down by the mechanism and study it to see what you have to do to get it apart.  Since I don't have the car in front of me, I can't tell you exactly what to do first.  I do know you need experience to get the window regulator disconnected from the glass, and also that the regulator has a powerful spring that can easily break your finger if you are not familiar with how to get them apart safely - Chrysler products are particularly nasty in this regard - many people have learned this the hard way - don't be one of them - get the right manuals!
