Classic/Antique Car Repair: 66 Mustang Fuel Pump, dash lights, fuel supply

Question
I've read through another thread that talked about fuel supply, startup and acceleration concerns, and I believe my issue fits the bill. I get some smoke on startup, and often have to give it a lot of gas to keep it from stalling. Even then, the car will often die once put into gear. Once warm, i've got no problems (i don't have the high speed acceleration issues of the other thread). On another note though, I have noticed that the dash has a nice strong steady appearance when i'm driving or when i'm in park or neutral, but if i happen to be in gear and stopped (or heavy breaking) the dash lights seem to flicker a bit.

anyway, you offered to walk the other Linda through changing the fuel pump, and i think i'd like to take you up on that offer (i do like to learn, and to get grease covered elbows). I've read through the service manual, and it doesn't look terribly complex, but i'm always happy to have someone walk me through the pitfalls (i find the manual is written as though this car was built in the last five years... no stuck nuts and gunky old hoses to worry about).

Best Regards,
-Lynda

Answer
Follow the manual, using common sense instead of their word for word, Look the entire job over, step by step, before starting.

Use boxed end wrenches instead of open end. NEVER use pliers on a flat surfaced object - bolthead, tubing ferel, etc.

If you get in a bind, ask again for help.
