Classic/Antique Car Repair: Converting to a 12 volt system, chevrolet pickup, volt system

Question
I have bought a 1950 Chevrolet pickup and I want to convert the 6 volt system to a 12 volt system.  I don't know what needs to be done and I haven't done anything to it yet.  Can you tell me what all needs to be changed out and a logical progression so that I don't wind up wasting time and money?  The pickup is all origional and I'm definitely going to be asking more questions as I go along.  Thanks for your time and support.

Answer
Battery, generator (alt), regulator must be changed as a unit. Items like the heater, radio, etc, can be ran on a 12 to 6v reducer. Lights will need to be replaced, but can be done as they burn out, except for headlights. Coil can either be reduced or replaced. Points are metal to metal and don't care.

Once done, as you do normal part replacemet remember to specify 12v.
