Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1939 buick valve lash adjustment, feeler gauge, 1939 buick

Question
Hi Tazz

I just bought a 1939 Buick model 40 (OHV straight eight). Adjusting valve lash is listed in the owner's manual as being a part of regular tune up. The gap is listed as 0.015. How to I check & adjust

Answer
Using a flat feeler gauge, insert it just below the rocker and make sure the gap is .015. This can be done with the engine off and cam rotated to the very bottom to release all pressure on rocker. Do this individually for each one, rotating cam to correct position.
