Question
QUESTION: Have a 1976 Mercury Comet, it was running, had just flushed the radiator rusty, has not been worked on for a number of years, at least 5. was told the water pump going out. After flushing radiator, ran it for 10 minutes, it dies with a loud noise and now wont start, the headlights are working one blinker wont flash, other dimmer than at first  please answer ASAP thanks

ANSWER: Would need a whole lot more info than what you related to give advice.

What did the noise sound like? was there smoke with it?

Noise come from undr hood or rear of car?

Does engine turn over but not start, not turn over at all?
Try to start but not quite make it?

You need to desribe in detail the problem itself. Radiator is immaterial to it running. Car will run with radiator completely removed.

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: Hello sent afollow up ? with more details. The noise was a loud boom from the rear and the car never seen smoke coming from. the engine sounds weak in trying to turn over yet wont. Does the water pump have anything to do with it starting? Or is this electrical starting system like a solenoid, carburetors ? thank-you Mrs. Sander

Answer
The noise was excess gas in exhaust, probably from engine dying at high speed. The radiator HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ENGINE RUNNING (see previous answer).

Not starting could be:

weak battery just not turning it fast enough
jumped time making it hard to start
water leak into cylinders that is preventing turnover.

If it turns at all it is not the solenoid. The carb is not electrical.
