Classic/Antique Car Repair: flathead, hemmings motor news, machined pad

Question
Cleaning out a old barn and found a old Chrysler flathead 6. I'm having a hard time finding age of motor and any value. Just wondering if you had any idea's that would help me with this.

Answer
Charles, on the top front corner of the left side of the engine, right below the cylinder head, there should be a machined pad with a number stamped on it. It should begin with a C for Chrysler, DeSoto, or Dodge and P for Plymouth. C1 through 6 is 1935, C7 through 11-1936, C14 through 17-1937, C18 through 20-1938, C23 throuygh 24- 1939, C25 through 27-1940, C28 through 33-1941, C34 through 37-11942, C38 through 40-1946 through 1948, C45 through 47-1949, C48 through 50-1950. As far as value, the condition and the age will determine that and you might get an idea going through the classified ads in Hemmings Motor News once you determine what the engine is.
