Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1970 Dodge Charger, loose wires, dodge charger

Question
The car starts but stalls when shifted into gear. Any help appreciated

Answer
I would need a lot more information to make any kind of guess about this problem.

It could be the engine is very weak for some reason - if that is the case, a good tune-up may fix it.  If it can't be fixed with a tune-up, it may need major repairs. Have a compression test done as a first step - tell me the results and I can perhaps advise you what to do.

It could be your curb idle speed is set to low- try adjusting the idle to about 800 rpm to see if that helps.

It could be that moving the shift lever is shorting out a wire and cutting off the ignition - check for bare or loose wires around the base of the steering column.

I'd also need to know which engine the car has, and which transmission.  The history of the car is also a big help - has it been serviced recently?  Have you talked to the person who last had it in good condition to learn what has gone wrong or has been done to it?

I'm willing to help, but I need some facts to make good guesses.
