Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1968 corvette, thumber, professional technician

Question
My husband & I have a 1968 corvette, 327. Just a driver, no shows. We are trying to do some repair ourselves. would it be too much for us to put a new power steering on, put a new oil pan on and repair the horn or should we have a mechanic do it?

Answer
Jacki, that depends on how may thumbs you have and the equipment in your garage. The thumb this is rated as a person that beaks everything that he or she touches being a person with 10 thumbs to a professional technician who is a 2 thumber. As well as a set of tools including sockets, fitting or tubing wrenches, jacks, safety stands, drain pans, a paved area preferably in a garage, lights, a voltmeter and more go for it. However get a manual for the car before you start as it will guide you step by step and save many a nasty uttered word. It would appear to me these days that with the current crop of junk on TV that the time is better spent in the garage. Good luck.
