Classic/Antique Car Repair: no spark, lincoln continental, condenser

Question
i have a 1968 lincoln continental and im not getting a spark I put a new starter silonoid and a new coil and points but still now spark when i take a plug off the distrubutor cap

Answer
Check to see if you have voltage on the + terminal of the coil. It should be 12 volts when the points are open, and about 6 volts when they are closed.  If you have that, change the condenser (condenser and points should always be changed at the same time) and then make sure you have the point dwell set right (30 degrees, plus or minus 2).

If you DON'T have voltage at the + terminal of the coil, run a separate wire from the + terminal of the battery over to the coil + terminal, then see if the car will start.  Be careful, you won't be able to turn it off unless you pull the new wire off the battery, and it will start in any gear. The reason you do this test is to eliminate any problem with the ignition system, if it starts.  Then you will know the problem is that your ignition switch or the wire from it to the coil is bad.
