Classic/Antique Car Repair: suspension, oldsmobile omega, air shocks

Question
i have asked you a question before and found you gave sound advice so here i am again asking another question im restoring a 1974 oldsmobile omega and i discovered a tire valve stem in my rear bumper that has a small black hose connected to both of my rear shocks the question is; is that for oil or air to the shocks and do i need to take it to the shop to be serviced. The reason i asked is because i got new lift springs in the back and my car sits lower on one side the guy at the shop said once the springs settle it should even out but nope

Answer
That is an air fill line for your shocks. It is no different than filling a tire, but air shocks usually hold about 120# of air. Most stations only go to about 65-85 these days.

If you car leans, it is possible than one of them is bad. Also, sometimes, people actuallu hook them up with seperate fill lines, so just for a tee to both or just one.

If you are them up and they go back down, you have a leak in either a line or the shock airbag itself. A lot of them are well warrented, even if your aren't the purchaser.
