Classic/Antique Car Repair: MGB, clutch slave cylinder, throwout bearing

Question
I need to know the proper amount of travel on a 1980MGB clutch slave cylinder. I am getting less than 1/4" with all new cylinders. The answers of 1" to 1 1/2" are from all the locals who are talking out their ass! If you do not know can you steer me in the right direction. Thank you-John

Answer
John, the right answer is 1 to 1 1/4 inches of free travel at the clutch pedal. Less than a quarter of an inch of free travel at the slave will do just fine as long as the pressure of the cylinder is not causing the arm to rest on the throwout bearing. (I know that I am using american terms for the parts here.) Because of the mechanical advantage of the linkage at the pedal this will translate into 1 to 1 1/4 inches at the pedal.
