Classic/Antique Car Repair: windshield wiper motor in 69 camaro, windshield wiper motor, wire jumpers

Question
I am trying to troubleshoot (T/S) why my wiper motor will not work. Car (69 camaro) has sat a mere 14 years plus and I am making my way through the electrical system. I have almost everything working again except for this.

I cannot get my wiper motor to function. There are three wires at the motor: black, a yellow wire and a light blue wire. The yellow wire jumpers to a connection to the washer pump. This yellow wire has switched 12 v coming to it. If the Ignition is on, it (Y wire) sees 12v. Does that make sense?

I also have three wires at the switch: Black, light blue, and dark blue. Based on the factory diagram this all looks good. In the configuration I have there is 12v coming to the switch from the dark blue wire. Based on what I see the light blue goes to the wiper motor and the black goes to the third pole on the wiper motor.

What do I trouble shoot and how? I am a total nimrod when it comes to this stuff. How could I check continuiuty of the switch? It is easy to pull away from the connector.

I can get my old motor to function if I hold it against the brake booster for a ground and “push start” the motor by turning the crank on the backside of the motor. I figured it was tired and bought a new motor. I cannot get the new motor to even “push start”.

Any help would be welcome.

Answer
Not sure how much help I will be here, but this is what I have for you.

The yellow wire is what powers the wiper briefly when the washer pump wets the windshield. Don't think it should be on unless washer button is stuck.

Get a cheap Ohm meter ($7) they are priceless in checking switches and all elelctrical. Get one that will check 12v too. Use this to not only check the switch, but the wires all the way out and the grounding of the motor.

Also. do all testing with the linkage off, to eliminate one more possibility off too much drag.

I never trust replacement parts. I would bench test the performance of the new motor with just a 12v lead & ground unrelated to installation in the car. Once I had satisfied that it was operational, it is just a matter of tracing the wiring to find if it is in the power or grounding.
