Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1937 chrysler royal brake problems, master cyl, horror stories

Question
i have a 1937 chrysler royal.  the brakes are not working right.  the back drivers side brake seams to always be on.  after driving a few miles it will start to smoke and feel very hot to the touch.  i have addjusted the brake to as lose as you can (opened it up and actually looked to make sure it was loose).  if i start drving it in the morning it is fine for a little than the brakes will slowly not relase anymore.  the brake peddle will not move unless you push very hard on it.  the brake lights are also on all the time even when you get out of the car.  i have put a new master cyl. in, rebuilt all the wheel cyl. put all new brake lines in, had the drums honed, and relined the shoes.  is there an adjustment on the master cyl. to allow less pressure?  there are no leaks anywhere.  i sometimes stop and the brakes are fine then i come back and they are locked with the brake lights on.  the front brakes do not work very well but that is prob. because i have them as loose as i can to try to keep the brakes from burning.

Answer
DANGER!!!
Your car is not save to be on the road...
from what you say ..
It seems to me that you have very little brakes at best and
can lose your brakes altogether at any time.

There seems to be to many issues for me to help you in this format.
My recommendation to you would be to find as reliable mechanic that has a history of working on older hot rods and
street rods.
Go to your next local car show and ask other drivers that have cars from your era  for recommendations.. I have had great luck with this method.
Three things you NEVER go cheap on...Brakes, suspension and steering.
If you run out of gas you pull over..
How many horror stories have you heard about ...
Good Luck let me know the out come
