Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1940 Didge 6 to 12 volt conversion, voltage reducer, luxury liner

Question
I have a 1940 Dodge, D14 4 door luxury liner. When I purchased it, it had a 12volt battery installed so I assumed it had been converted to 12 volts. Now I'm not so sure. It looks like the horn and lights are still 6 volt and upon further inspection I find that it still has a generator.

Is there a resource or document that I might use to confirm the steps required to convert?

Thanks,
Mike

Answer
I know of no resouce, but it is pretty common sense. If your lights are still 6v and there is not a inline voltage reducer somewhere they will be TOO bright and burn out quickly.

Most generators are 12v or more, but your voltage regulator is what determines the voltage going back to your system.

From what you have said, if light and horn are still 6v, you probably have a voltage stepdown somewhere and that is fine way of operating too.
