Classic/Antique Car Repair: 48 Chevy ignition, correct voltage, coil wire

Question
have a 48 Chevy that is getting spark to the points, but not to the plugs. new plug wires, new rotor and cap. any way to tell if coil is bad? any other ideas?

Answer
Yes, a simple volt meter I have mentioned in previous answers (about $9) is a great tool for working on a car. Be sure and get one with an Ohm meter also.

Test the output voltage with the volt meter on 12V, they very seldom have a lower setting. You should see the correct voltage for your coil or at least within 10%.

Also, use the Ohm function to test all the new parts you bought. All the wires, rotor, cap, coil wire. I have found at least 33% on the time, new parts that should have fixed the problem to be bad.
