Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1969 Camaro Ground Straps, 1969 camaro, car wiper

Question
Hi Dick,
I couldn't get my 2 speed wiper motor to work when it is plugged in to the wiring harness.  In checking it to find out what my connections are, I noticed the case was about 35 ohms above the battery ground.  I know my battery ground goes to the engine block, but the strap to my firewall is disconnected.  I thought I would put all the grounding straps on my car to make sure that its right, but I don't know where the ground straps should truly be hooked up to.  Do you have any idea?  Also, after the ground strap, do you know the plugout of the wiper motor.
Please let me know.
Thanks in advance,
Hank

Answer
The ground strap should come off one of the bolts that hold the intake manifold down to the engine - usually it's the rear bolt on the passenger side.  Then the ground strap goes just a short distance to a screw on the firewall.  Make sure to clean all the mating surfaces so that you have clean bright metal (no paint!) preventing a good connection.

I don't have a wiring diagram for your car - that is a good reason to get yourself a factory shop manual- that will pay for itself the first time you use it, and help you to do anything you ever need to do to the car.

Wiper motor wiring is quite tricky, because you not only have multiple speeds, you also have the special circuit that reverses the motor to park the blades when you turn it off.  You really need the wiring diagram to work on it.

Sorry I can't tell you the wire colors.
