Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1963 ford fairlane gas tank, 1963 ford fairlane, airplane glue

Question
i have a 1963 ford fairlane and my gas tank had started to split around the seams of the tank..i have been looking for a new tank but nobody makes a replacement tank for fairlanes between 1960-1965..i was thinking about drilling and pop riveting the seams back together (they stick out about an inch from the tank)and sealing it..but am afraid drilling the metal of the tank might cause an explosion..i cant afford the 300-400 dollars to get my tank restored and wanted to know if there was a gas tank from another car that could fit my fairlane and is it safe to drill the tank on the seams after the tank has been degreased, cleaned and air dried for a few days..thanks

Answer
Did not have time to go on Internet and check, but JCWhitney should have a replacement tank for under $160.

There is a product called "Seal-all" that is about like airplane glue and will seal even dripping gasoline leaks. I have used it many times in the past.

If you chose to work on this tank yourself (not my first option) do not work on it empty. Clean it and then fill it with clean water. Make sure it is full and no air gaps. Vapor space is what is dangerous when working on flammable containers.
