Classic/Antique Car Repair: front radio speaker, ac ducts, contorsionist

Question
How do I remove a front radio speaker from a 1974 Duster.  It looks like I have to at it from underneath with all kinds of stuff in the way?

Answer
Yes, you're right, it's a nasty job.  You have to remove the AC ducts (if the car has AC) then the ash tray and the ash tray housing.  Now, remove the radio itself, starting with the knobs in the usual way, and the support bracket. As you lower and move forward the radio from behind the dash, you'll see the various wires that need to be disconnected, two of which go to the speaker.  Once the radio is out of the way, you can get at the speaker - but it takes a real contorsionist to do it - you may find that it is easier to remove a front seat to work more comfortably - and you'll need a very good work light that does not get hot (flourescent tube).

Sorry about that - they built those cars by starting the speaker down the production line, then they hung other parts on it until it was a complete car!
