Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1955 Chevy Firing Order, chevy firing order, spark plug wires

I have a 55 chevy w/ 265 V8, I rebuilt from bottom up, I'm having aproblem with the firing order and the placement of spark plug wires on my distributor, can you tell me the firing order and placement of wires? The distributor is from a 61 chevy

Hi-  1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2-  and the 1 on the cap should be right of the window on the dist. the no 1 should be at the 6:30  plug  on cap.[ www.classiccarauto.com ]go to this site it will help you out.  OK  Roger
