Classic/Antique Car Repair: excessive play in steering, tie rod ends, power steering pump

Question
I Have a recently purchased 77 L-82 corvette. There is about two inches of travel in the wheel and this makes it difficult to maintain a straight line, especially on a bumpy road. Everything has been replaced, power steering pump, cylinder, valve, steering box, tie rod ends and ball joints and shocks! My shop manual suggests incorrect gear adjustment, but the shop that did the work claims it has been checked? The car corners and handles great except for this problem? The shop says old C3 Corvettes don't handle well?? Any ideas?

Hi
I had a 63 vette, it had no front end troubles. I think you should take it to a brand name front end shop and have them check it over , you should not have that much play. the steering box  might need a adj.or there is still something worn out.idel  arm?
