Classic/Antique Car Repair: 58 Pont. Hydramatic leak, ford street rod, little snake

Question
QUESTION: I have a 40 Ford street rod, '58 Pont. drive train. I have replaced the rear seal and pan seal. Now I have a leak which is dripping from flywheel  cover. Trans. function is perfect. Can I keep driving this summer? Are there any fluid fixes?

ANSWER: front seal in trans, you can keep driving as long as its not pouring out ya know:)

Easy fix though, but ya have to drop trans, can be done on weekend with couple jack stands and jack

Pop out seal with screw driver along edge and I use a modified peice of PVC pipe 2.5 inch with end cap to tap new seal into place.

Replace tourque converter, line up cog, spin, 1st clunk keep spinning until 2nd clunk.

QUESTION: ATF is about 7-8 visc. I am running NAPA atf. Will going to a thicker fluid ,premium quality ag. hydraulic fluid, 10W, be of any use? I have heard this can prolong trans. life.  This car is only used in the summer. Thanks for the answer on the front seal leak.

Are you leaving a trail for all to follow?...lol

oh IC ok Q was on thicker fluid...eh it works ok for a while but sometimes the thicker the fluid the harder the pump has to work to push it.

Thats a tough call, never hurts to try a little snake oil now and then but will thicker stop leak?...no
