Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1948 ford coupe, ford coupe, frame rail

where are the VIN numbers located on a 1948 ford coupe? were there any located on the body? Because the original frame has been removed and replaced with a newer chassis. thanks Tim

Answer
The numbers were stamped on the top of the clutch housing, and on the frame rail, driver's side, back near the firewall.  If you have neither item, you'll have to have a new VIN issued by your local Highway Patrol or whatever they call it in your state.

There was no number on the body until 1949.
