Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1950 Chevy Pick-up with a 235, volt system, wd 40

Question
Hi Roger,

This engine has ran fine for several years.  However, about 3 years ago it got parked for sometime in a garage with several people that might have tried to start it.  I have pulled it out, rebuilt the brakes and can't get the thing to start. I changed the fuel out, it appears to be getting spark to the plugs but it won't fire.  What could be the problem?  What process should I use to get it running?  I remember that the original system was a 12 volt system and that someone before me had just stuck in a 12 volt battery.  This made the gages incorrect, but the truck ran like a champ. What should I try?  Thanks for the help.

well first off I do not know why it did not burn all of the wires up with that 12 volt. battery.  I would check the timming, points, rotor, dist, cap, condensor ,plugs, plug wires.and fuel filter.you might have crud in the fuel line or filter-spray the carb and choke up real good with some wd-40 or liquid. wrench
