Classic/Antique Car Repair: Engine Restoration, cam bearings, engine restoration

Question
Hey, I have an engine from the 70's and it is very, very dirty. There is grease, grime and rust all through the engine. Please tell me how or where to find out how to thoroughly clean and restore an engine. I'm pretty sure that there are fancy machines that could clean it, but I'm more interested in ways that are low-cost. Thank you for your time.

Hi- well if the rust is bad it will have to be sent out, or it might not even be any good, but you can get some spray gunk and clean the crud off, or even use a paint brush with some kerosine or add a little gas to it. but do not smoke.  than with a drill with a wire wheel you can clean it off real good, down to the shiny metal than you can rent a engine cylinder hone and clean the cylinder walls out and than you can rent a ridge reamer to cut the ridge off if you have any.  than check the freeze out plugs and if they are rusted up- remove and replace them.  than you can paint the motor a nice chewy orange. check all bearings and replace any or all of them. check the cam bearings also.   if it is rusted up bad you might want to send it out.
