Classic/Antique Car Repair: removal and installing oil pump, timing chain cover, cadillac deville

Question
I purchase a oil pump and timing chain cover for my 1966 Cadillac deville.  However, I'm not sure how to remove and install the new oil pump, please help. I'm willing to buy any material or manual recommend but I don't where to obtain it, please help I'm desperate!

Answer
The most helpful item you can obtain is a copy of the original factory "Shop Manual" for this car.  These are available from automotive literature dealers. I use Ed Faxon of www.faxonautolit.com, but there are many others in the same business.  Just contact them and tell them what car you want to be able to repair, and make sure they know you plan to do engine work on it.

Read the manual carefully, and decide if that repair is something you want to tackle.  You'll need a few special tools (mainly a good torque wrench), and some mechanical experience working on engines, or a very good ability to learn fast by doing.  There is nothing really hard to understand about this sort of work, it just requires care, cleanliness, patience, and common sense, given that you have the right manuals and tools.  We all started with nothing at all, and self taught ourselves, myself included- so don't be discouraged if you have some difficulty at first.  Once you complete the repair, you will be experienced enough to tackle most engine repairs yourself.

Good Luck!
