Classic/Antique Car Repair: Our Little Baby Nash, british car clubs, mg magnet

Question
We have recently acquired a 1958 Nash Metropolitan and it needs an engine.   We are wondering if a 1500cc motor from an 1978 MG Midget will be compatible with the Metropolitan's stock transmission.  PLEEEAAAASSSEE help us out!

Answer
Hi Jennifer,
Sorry, but the 1500 Midget is a Triumph 1500 and is not a bolt in. However the 1500 MGA is the engine that was used in the Nash Metropolitan. The Triumph engines as used in the late Midgets were Standard and the Nash and the MGA were Austin engines. Another car that used the 1500 Austin engine was the MG Magnet. There were other English cars that used the 1500 Austin engine but were not brought into the US.
You do not have an engine or do you mean it needs rebuilding? Parts are available for the MGA (Metro) engine.
Many MGAs converted to MGB engines so you should be able to find a 1500 "A" engine. An 1800 MGB engine could be fitted to a Metro but would require some modifications.
Local British car clubs in your area would be a good place to source a 1500 MGA engine. The main difference is the "A" had two carburetors and higher compression and probably a better cam but is pretty much a bolt in. If you can't find anything let me know and I will search too.
