Classic/Antique Car Repair: no spark, bright sun light, volt ohm meter

Question
i have a 65 triumph tr4-a that has power to the distributor but points and plugs do not spark. i put on new points and a condenser. can you help?

Answer
Hi Tim,
Do this test, pull the coil wire out of the distributor cap and remove the cap from the distributor. Turn the ignition switch on. Look at the contact points to see if they are open or closed. If they are closed, hold the end of the coil wire end about 1/8 inch away from the block or head and open the points with any thing non metallic. If the points were open, touch between the contact points with a screwdriver or anything metallic while you hold the coil wire end about 1/8 inch from the block or head. You should see a spark jump and it should be a thick blue spark. (Not in the bright sun light)

You said you have power to the distributor, how are you testing this? A test light or a volt / ohm meter? When you installed the contact points, what did you set the point gap at? and are you sure you set it on the high point of the points cam? Let me know.
