Classic/Antique Car Repair: Chatter, muffler clamps, drive shaft

Question
Hi Roger,
I recently picked up a 77 Nova w/ a 305 and automatic transmission. The car has 90,000 miles on it and it was owned by a little old man who pampered the car. The car sat for the better part of two years before I got the car. The car runs great but sometimes under heavy acceleration it has a severs chatter which feels like it's coming from the rear of the car, almost like a wheel hop. It will not stop until after I let off the gas. It happens more under heavy loads such as accelerating up hill. but doesn't happen all the time. I have checked the entire rear suspension and found nothing loose broken or damaged. My thought now is perhaps it is slipping in the transmission or torque converter. What is your assessment.

Thanks, Bill

HI   I would check all fluids  and replace any if dirty, also did you check the drive shaft and u-joints? also check muffler clamps/hangers.As far as the tranny if it is slipping I would change the filter and all of its fluid.  . Look under the car for any shiny spots or if anything is rubbing.  and check the motor mounts front and tranny mount.  ok
