Classic/Antique Car Repair: 1977 plymouth volare, turn signal switch, 1977 plymouth volare

Question
I noticed the other day that my brake light on the drivers side was out. I figured it was just the bulb, so i replaced it and it still did not work. The tail light and the turn signal work, but the brake light will not come on. On the passenger side the tail/signal/brake light works.

Answer
The failure is in the turn signal switch in 99% of these cases.  To prove it to yourself, have someone stand behind the car and watch while you put your foot on the brake so that the right side brake light comes on, and then jiggle the turn signal lever - I'm betting that you can find a position in which the left side brake light also comes on, if only for an instant.  Even if you cannot find the magic spot, I'm confident that you need a new turn signal switch.
