Classic/Antique Car Repair: 65 289 mustang overheating, sandalwood lane, coolant filter

Hi I have put on a new radiator,new hoses,new thermostat,new waterpump,checked the timing and yet my car overheats especially when sitting at a traffic light.Ihave owned the car since day one and have never had a problem before this.any ideas????

If you have not done it within the last few years, it is probably way past due for a complete cleaning of the block.  The process is to remove the core plugs from the sides of the block and mechanically dig out the 42 year accumulation of crud and mud from the cooling passages.  Then, before you start the engine again, install a coolant filter to catch any particles that you may have stirred up but not gotten flushed out of the block.   

A good coolant filter is the GANO filter, available from the Gano Filter Co., 1205 Sandalwood Lane, Los Altos, CA 94024.

You may have to reverse flush the new radiator also, if you can see deposits of junk on top of the vertical tubes when you look in through the radiator cap hole with a flashlight and dentist's mirror - this will be if circulating debris has made it's way into the new radiator already.
