Classic/Antique Car Repair: 65 Mustang specs, mustang specs, marti report

Question
Is there any way to determine how a 65 mustang was ordered and what dealer options were installed?
I know that the Marti report only goes bak to 67, so was wondering if anything else out there.

Thank you

Answer
There is no way to find out what the dealer installed on the car, because they kept no records of that other than what was listed on the invoice when the original buyer took delivery.

As for how the car was built, this will be shown on the build sheet. Very often, these sheets are still found in the car somewhere - a favorite place is interwoven into the seat springs, especially the rear seat backrest.  Other places are under the carpet or in the other seat cushions.  I've also seen them glued to the top (hidden surface) of the glove box.  If the car has already been re-upholstered, those were probably thrown away.

Some of the manufacturers will send you a copy of the build sheet if you contact the company's customer service department - I know Pontiac and Chrysler will do this - I don't know about Ford - you'll just have to contact them and see.  Of course if you can track down the original sales documents, those should have the information also, but after all these years, it would be a lucky break indeed!
