Classic/Antique Car Repair: mgb wiring, roadster factory, chrome bumpers

Question
I have 1974 MGB.  First, the dash harness is completely melted together.  What would be a good plan of attack?  I can't find anyone who sells them for one thing, and alot of times I'm not sure if it is for a 74 or 74.5 (other parts).  If I can obtain the different harnesses, how hard is it to install?

Secondly, i've got the original two su carbs, should i even mess with them, or should i buy replacements?

thanks for your help!

ryan.

Answer
Hi Ryan,
It is a lot of work to rewire all the wiring under the dash by running your own wires. Dash wiring harneses are available. If you have two SU carbs and chrome bumpers you should have a 74. Most harneses can be ordered by your VIN number to be sure.
Over the years I have wired many MGs, Triumphs and Jaguars and I can say that you are far better off buying a harnes than trying to run you own wiring. Moss Motors, The Roadster Factory or Victory British are a few and there are others that should have the dash harnes available.

The SU carbs are far ahead of their time and are very good carbs. They can be rebuilt many times so there is no need to buy new ones normally.
