OK I am having timing trouble, My car is lagging when I go full throttle but the car wants to stay on when I turn it off,  I am not an expert at timing but I have tried several times and I always get it to where it will barely run or it stays on when I cut it off, please help.
Thanx Robert

HI -  what car, year , engine type, carb,  ?

Answer
ROB;
 You mean that when you turn the car off it will still ping and pop and run on till it stalls out. first I would turn down the idle, than i would set the timeing , you could even try it by ear if you think you can do it. it must be a bit advanced, than I would also re adj. the carb. , so re set the timeing a bit ret.- and adj the carb a bit lean and than turn down the idle. I bet it will help you.  ok and did you change your gas at all.
ok; when you do the timeing, I hope you have the no 1 plug wire cliped with the wire clamp and than you should un plug the vacume hose from the dist. and tape the open end of it closed so irt will not suck air. now you will set the timeing try it at  6 * and see how that is. than re hook the hose and tighten down the dist nut. also you might have to adj. the carb also.  and if 6 is not good try it at 8 .  and it should be ideling at about 650 rpms. ok
