Classic/Antique Car Repair: Ignition Oddities?, plymouth valiant, starter relay

Question
I have an odd problem, I think? I have a 75' Plymouth Valiant Brougham, and the question is: When i turn the key to on, the starter starts going. The car acts like I just turned the key to start. I checked inside the steering column to make sure everything was hooked up right and it is. I checked to see if the car was intended to be started there and, there is a start option on the column. So do you know what could be causing the engine to turn over when the key is in the on position instead of the start position?

Answer
There is an error in either the wiring or the starter control circuit which is causing the starter to receive 12 volts when the key is in the "ignition on" position.

Check ALL the wiring at the starter relay, looking for any stray bare metal in contact with a terminal, or bare spot in the wires.  If you cannot find any problem with the wiring, replace the starter relay.
